Vitamin B12 supplementation during pregnancy for maternal and child health outcomes

Conclusion: Oral vitamin B12 supplementation during pregnancy may reduce the risk of maternal vitamin B12 deficiency and may improve maternal vitamin B12 concentrations during pregnancy or postpartum compared to placebo or no vitamin B12 supplementation, but the evidence is very uncertain. The effects of vitamin B12 supplementation on other primary outcomes assessed in this review were not reported, or were not reported in a format for inclusion in quantitative analyses. Vitamin B12 supplementation during pregnancy may improve maternal and infant vitamin B12 status, but the potential impact on longer-term

The concept of folic acid supplementation and its role in prevention of neural tube defect among pregnant women: PRISMA

Conclusion: As a result, women are recommended to take 400 microgram FA/day from preconception until the end of the first trimester to prevent NTD-affected pregnancies. This allows the developing neural tissue to acquire critical mass and provides the preferred rostrocaudal orientation so that these divisions contribute to the elongation of the developing neural tube in embryos.

Genetic variants in the folate metabolic pathway genes predict cutaneous melanoma-specific survival

Conclusion: Two possibly functional genetic variants, MTHFD1 rs1950902 and ALPL rs10917006, were likely to be independently or jointly associated with CMSS, which may add to personalized treatment in the future, once further validated. What is already known about this topic? Existing data show that survival rates vary among patients with melanoma with similar clinical characteristics; therefore, it is necessary to identify additional complementary biomarkers for melanoma-specific prognosis. A hypothesis-driven approach, by pooling the effects of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in a specific biologi
