Conclusion: The safety and tolerability profile of LDX in individuals with ADHD is similar to that of other stimulants.
Lisdexamphetamine side effects
Across 12 first-hand reports, people mentioned a side effect 8 times (about 67 per 100 reports). The most common: fatigue, weakness, adrenal insufficiency. User reports show what people notice — they can't tell you whether Lisdexamphetamine is safe for you.
Reported side effects
In their own words
“I felt the added LSD helped apply different things I knew to the problem...but unfortunately, as time went on that week, I felt that I was not productive without the aid of the drugs.”
“2 days of a therapeutic dose per week of amphetamine gave me a functional adrenal insufficiency.”
“I don't want to take them every day though, because they affect my identity and creativity.”
“I accidentally took what I thought was a 20mg lisdexamphetamine, but was actually a 50mg capsule.”
Is Lisdexamphetamine safe? What the research covers
Conclusion: While our review suggests that some psychostimulants-particularly methylphenidate-appear well-tolerated and demonstrate some efficacy for depression, as well as fatigue and sleepiness, the strength of evidence in our estimates was low to very low for most agents given the small sample sizes, few RCTs, and imprecision in most estimates. A lack of consistent evidence precludes a definitive hierarchy of treatments and points to a need for additional, high-quality RCTs.
Conclusion: Methylphenidate or mixed amphetamine salts may improve ADHD symptoms in BD. However, there is limited evidence regarding the effectiveness on cognition. The medications produced no increased mania risk when used alongside mood stabilizers. Further robust studies are needed to assess cognition in BD patients receiving psychostimulant treatment alongside mood stabilizers.
