What the research says

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses from PubMed, with their published conclusions.

AStrong research base

3+ meta-analyses or systematic reviews and 10+ randomized controlled trials in humans. The grade measures how much human research exists — read the conclusions below for what it found.

The human microglial HMC3 cell line: where do we stand? A systematic literature review

Conclusion: In view of the fact that "being now authenticated by ATCC®" may imply a wider distribution of the cells, we aimed at reviewing data obtained with the human microglia cell line clone 3, making the readers aware of this complicated nomenclature. In addition, we also included original data, generated in our laboratory with the HMC3 (ATCC®CRL-3304) cells, providing information on the current state of the culture together with supplementary details on the culturing procedures to obtain and maintain viable cells.

Diverse Roles of NETosis in the Pathogenesis of Lupus

Conclusion: In fact, several approaches are being experimented to therapeutically target pathways of NETosis. Future studies should precisely delineate distinct roles of NETosis at different stages of lupus pathogenesis in humans, which would offer a rational basis for NETosis-targeting treatments in the clinic.

Interplay of Immunity and Vitamin D: Interactions and Implications with Current IBD Therapy

Conclusion: Here we provide a systematic review of the pathophysiological effects of cytokines in IBD in the presence of vitamin D deficiency. Also, analysis of the immunomodulatory effect of vitamin D in regulating immunopathogenic factors like chemokines, growth factors, and human defensins will enhance knowledge of the underlying molecular mechanisms of the therapeutic role of vitamin D in IBD and thus aid in the development of better patient management strategies.

Handling Stress and Sample Storage Are Associated with Weaker Complement-Mediated Bactericidal Ability in Birds but Not Bats

Conclusion: This pattern was also similar when we analyzed the proportion of nonnegative and positive effect sizes per species, using phylogenetic comparative methods. We discuss potential physiological and evolutionary mechanisms by which complement proteins may differ between species orders and suggest future avenues for comparative field studies of immunity between sympatric bats, birds, and rodents in particular.
